Yet, as the number of people living in the Philippines and their families have risen over the past 20 years, the number and quality of sleep has improved.
The country has the largest population of Filipinos living in any country in the Asia-Pacific region.
It has the highest prevalence of chronic sleep disorders in the region.
A 2011 survey by the World Health Organization found that more than 20% of the population were classified as sleep deprived.
Yet according to a 2015 survey by Minden Foundation, only 14% of Filipinas have a quality of life comparable to that of the rest of the world, and only 17% of adults are living in a sleep-deprived condition.
