The case of a young British man accused of raping a 19-year-old Indian woman in Delhi is the latest in a string of cases involving sex crimes against women, including rape and sexual violence.
The woman in the Delhi case was pregnant at the time and her child was born in India.
The accused, aged in his 20s, was arrested in May, after police received a tip-off that he had sex with the woman.
He was charged with rape, forcible confinement, unnatural sex and sexual assault.
His trial has been adjourned until June 7, but he has been released on bail.
He faces a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
A British man, known as the ‘Lord Of The Rings’ because of his love of books, is accused of assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Mumbai in January last year.
He is due to appear in court in the UK on Monday.
